Chairman of Human Rights Observers Mr. Tameem marked UN Human Rights Day with a historic speech
Dec 10 2013, – Human Rights begin with the self, if we recognize this fact then we would not only respect ourselves and our rights but also respect others and their human rights. He said that we all should come forward strive hard for a cause.
Tameem highlighted in detail the status of human rights and salient featured of democracy, we have been successful in promoting and maintaining the democracy but we fail to value and protect the human rights. He highlighted importance of civil and cultural aspects of rule of law.
He highlighted status of women’s rights and said that after Afghanistan and Congo India is the fourth dangerous country as far as the women’s rights are concerned.
Tameem Delivers inspiring address at the interactive session on international day of elimination of violence against women
Nov 25 2013, -Speaking on the occasion Tameem said Gender-based violence stems from the failure of governments and societies to recognize the human rights of women. At least one out of three women around the world has been coerced into sex, or sexually abused in her lifetime. A large proportion of reported attacks are against children total 28,270 cases of CHILD rapes reported in 2012 in India alone.
Tameem also said female foeticide, child marriage and high levels of trafficking and domestic servitude makes India the fourth most dangerous place for women, the poll showed. 100 million people, mostly women and girls, are involved in trafficking in one way or another, according to former Indian Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta. 44.5 pct of girls are married before the age of 18.
In a talk entitled “Ending Violence Against Women and Girls, and the Culture of Impunity”, Tameem appealed to adopt “Millennium Development Goal” of eliminating violence against women.
To reinforce the message further Tameem said the figures are alarming and the conditions are worse. There are scores of such women become daily victims of sexual abuse; this is an extremely important issue which needs urgent, effective action from the authorities.
